Berlin Wall

The city of Berlin was divided by the Berlin Wall for almost 30 years. The West Berlin side was decorated with graffiti from artists wishing to leave their mark. On the East Berlin side, this was completely forbidden, indeed impossible as the inhbitants of East Berlin were not allowed to go anywhere near the Wall. The Wall was a high security area; it was well nigh impossible for East Germans to escape via the Wall. Many of those who attempted this were shot by GDR border guards.
